Do you remember the feeling of doing something scary for the first time?
For me this was my first ever time jumping off a cliff. I stood up there for ages. Worries and doubts running through my head. I had seen others jump before me and I knew I'd survive it but still, standing there was way different.
Luckily I wasn't alone. I had good friends standing next to me who empathized with me and my fears. Rather than ridiculing me for my hesistancy they helped me talk through my fears and helped me clear my mind and finally commit to jumping.
I recently realized that the same situation still occurs to me on a regular basis. On the journey of entrepreneurship there are a lot of new, scary, risky things you need to do. Many of them for the first time. It may be the first time putting yourself out there and starting to share your content online. It may be your first pitch in front of customers or investors. It may be the first tense discussion with an unhappy customer. It is normal that we are worried in these situations. Everything that's new triggers worries and insecurities. The most important thing you need to be able to overcome these though is being able to handle your doubts and fears.
This is why it's so important to be working together with people that push you in the right way. You don't want people who push you off a cliff - this way you don't learn to handle the underlying anxieties. You want people that help you deal with your worries and work through them.
At work we now use the metaphor of jumping off a cliff together in moments where we need to do something for the first time. It's a great way to ask for help and understanding and overcoming the things that hold us back together.
When you're not alone you can concquer your fears and achieve massive things. When you need to jump off a new cliff for the first time reach out to the people around you - they will help you jump.
